Spaceports Policies
Important Please Read!
Notice: After Jan 1, 2004 Spaceports will no longer be a free service. After this time the only content restriction for paying users will be adult content. We will not be allowing any adult content of any kind.
We now allow commercial sites. For more information on how you can add more professionalism and depth to your site, please visit our friends at Tera-Byte Dot Com and click on "design".

- All accounts come with 20mb of space. To upgrade your space click here.
- Sites that are still empty 14 days after activation will be deleted.
- ALL sites, regardless of server, must have a valid index file. The specific extenion can be .htm, .html, or .shtml; CGI-BIN allows some additional extensions. To verify your site is in compliance with this rule, just load up http://yourserver/~yoursite; If your main page loads, and you do not get a 'no directory index' error, your site is fine.
- The CGI-BIN index page needs to have a link back to your *main* account page, and, preferably, a link to the scripts/content you store on your CGI account.
- The owners of Spaceports are not responsible for the content of our users' pages.
- The owners of Spaceports are not liable for the "quirks" of the internet such as downtime due to fibre outages or other acts of technology nor are the owners liable for "quirks" of electronics such as a hard drive failure. The users are responsible for their own back-ups unless other arrangements have been made.
- You may not upload MP3 files without the express consent of the copyright holder. Accounts which contain illegal MP3 files will be removed without notice.
- Spaceports is a web hosting service not a storage facility. Directories found with just stored material (ie no html files) will be deleted.
- Sites that have not been accessed within the past 90 days will be removed. For the purpose of determining an "access" we check and see if any html file, other than the main index.html file in your public_html directory has been viewed within the past 90 days.
- All files belong in your public_html directory. Any files found outside this directory will be removed.
We do not allow the following:
- Nudity, pornography, sexual material, hate propaganda or hate mongering,
swearing, or fraudulent material or activity
- Any material that violates or infringes in any way upon the rights of others,
including, without limitation, copyright or trademark rights
- Any material that is threatening, abusive, harassing, defamatory, invasive
of privacy or publicity rights, vulgar, obscene, profane, *indecent, or otherwise
objectionable; or that violates any law or gives rise to any legal liability
- Material that promotes, encourages, or provides instructional information
about illegal activities
- Any software, information, or other material that contains a virus, corrupted
data, or any other harmful or damaging component
- Sending unsolicited email (a.k.a. spam) containing any reference (including
but not limited to, your URL) to your Spaceports account
BANNER POLICY
* All banners must be above-the-fold on all pages. Our banner must be displayed
on the first screen of a standard browser window in 640x480 resolution on all
pages. On frames pages, the banner must be above-the-fold in at least one of
the frames. The banner must also be displayed in its entirety; banners cut-off
by the edge of a frame, table, or page are not permitted.
* All sites with banners must have a 0.25% CTR or greater. Your site must average
at least one banner click for every 400 banners displayed.
* You may NOT incentivize banner clicks. This has always been our policy, but
it is worth repeating. The only approved phrase for referencing your banner
is 'Please visit our sponsors.' You may NOT incentivize banner clicks by telling
people to click on the banner, requiring people to click on the banner, or otherwise
encouraging people to click on the banner for any reason other than interest
in the product or service being advertised.
Any sites that are unable to comply with these policies will be asked to remove
the banner code and display our popups instead. Sites found to be abusing these
policies will be removed at our discretion. In addition, because banners are
a requirement for upgrades, these sites will be ineligible to receive additional
web space.
WEB SITE POLICY
* All sites must have content. Any sites found to be consuming our resources
with no content, such as sites with a lot of binary files but no HTML, or HTML
that merely links to files with no real content behind it, will be removed.
* Sites with excessive pop-ups are not permitted. We have noticed a number
of sites that open numerous popup windows, sometimes a dozen or more, when they
are loaded. This detracts from the advertising we use to cover the expenses
of hosting these sites and makes for poor web site design in general. Any sites
found to have an unreasonable number of popups will be removed.
* All sites must be primarily in English. We have received many complaints
from our advertisers about non-English content on the web sites we host. As
a result, we have been forced to restrict our hosting to sites with primarily
English content. Any non-English sites will be removed at our discretion.
Any sites found to be in violation of these policies will be removed.
Terms, Conditions, and Acceptable Use Policy
By using our services in any matter whatsoever, you agree to the following conditions.
- Spaceports may only be used for lawful purposes. Any use of these services which violates any local, state, federal, or international laws which may apply to Spaceports, your local jurisdiction, or any jurisdiction that you or your site may be subject to is strictly prohibited.
- You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless Spaceports from any and all liability, penalties,losses, damages, costs, expenses, attorneys' fees, causes of action or claims caused by or resulting directly and/or indirectly from your use of the service which damages either you, Spaceports, or any other party or parties without limitation or exception. This indemnification and hold harmless agreement extends to all issues associated with your account with Spaceports.
- Spaceports reserves the right to refuse or discontinue service to anyone at our sole discretion. Spaceports may deny you access to all or part of the service without notice if you engage in any conduct or activities that Spaceports in its sole discretion believes violates any of the terms and conditions in this agreement.
- Spaceports shall have no responsibility to notify any third-party providers of services, merchandise, or information, nor any responsibility for any consequences resulting from such discontinuance or lack of notification.
- Spaceports reserves the right to refuse to post or to remove any information or materials, in whole or in part, that, in its sole discretion, are unacceptable, undesirable, or in violation of this agreement. We do not permit the hosting of pornographic, offensive, or illegal material on our server. Copyrighted material may only be hosted with written permission from the copyright holder(s).
- Spaceports makes no warranties or representations of any kind for the services being offered. The service is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis without warranties of any kind, either express or implied, including but not limited to warranties of title, noninfringement, or implied warranties of merchantability or fitness for a particular purpose. No advice or information given by Spaceports or its agents or employees shall create a warranty.
- Spaceports provides no warranty that the service will be uninterrupted or error-free. We assume no liability, expressed or implied, for any downtime for any reason.
- If you are dissatisfied with Spaceports or any of its terms, conditions, rules, policies, guidelines, or practices, your sole and exclusive remedy is to discontinue using the service. There are NO refunds.
- You assume total responsibility and risk for your use of Spaceports and the Internet. It is solely your responsibility to evaluate the accuracy, completeness, and usefulness of all opinions, advice, services and other information, and the quality and merchantability of all merchandise provided through Spaceports.
- Spaceports reserves the right to monitor any and all communications through or with our facilities. You agree that Spaceports is not considered a "secure communications medium" for the purposes of the ECPA, and that no expectation of privacy is afforded.
- You agree that you as the person legally responsible for use of this account, are at least 18 years of age or have your parent's or legal guardian's permission before using our service.
- You agree to adhere to these system policies as published online at along with any documents specifically linked with that document and mentioned as part of system policy, including restrictions on services available with each account type, restrictions on certain features, and all other policies designed to protect and enhance the quality and reliability of service at Spaceports. You agree to abide by any and all future Spaceports decisions.
- Your use of the service is solely at your risk. Spaceports is not responsible for files and data residing on your account. You agree to take full responsibility for files and data transferred and to maintain all appropriate backup of files and data stored on our servers.
- This agreement supersedes any written, electronic, or oral communication you may have had with Spaceports or any agent or representative thereof, and constitutes the complete and total agreement between the parties.
- If any provision of this agreement is determined to be invalid or unenforceable, all other provisions shall remain in full force and effect and said provision shall be reformed only to the extent necessary to make it enforceable.
