Chapter 3- The Adventure Continues

Wednesday, June 11
9:00AM Now I'm driving my sister and myself to band practice. Not to worry, I'm sure there will be plenty more adventures. My mom was more worried then me this morning. She was standing in the garage watching me pull away, so I told my sister to close the garage door.
12:00AM I had to drag my sister to the car to get her ride home with me (the ride there wasn't that bad.) As I was driving around the school, my sister leaned out of the window screaming "HELP ME!!" The population was frightened.

1:00PM Today I drove myself to school to get my yearbook picture taken. I forgot that today was garbage day and didn't notice that the friendly garbage people left the garbage can carrier on the driveway. Of course, I ran it over, but luckily it's only a little bent. My parents are taking it rather well.

9:00PM I was driving home from band and decided that I would test the high beams (the headlights just got fixed.) I stopped and waited for the car in front of me to get out of sight. Then I turned on my high beams- and my turn signal. It took me a while to realize what that clicking noise was. The car behind us must of thought I'm crazy or something.
My dream sign

6:00PM I've been doing pretty well driving lately, except for the transmission slipping once in a while, but that's not my fault. Anyways, my sister (she agreed to calm down as long as I take her out once in a while) and I went out shopping. On our way home, I was about to turn into our street when we spotted a group of unexpecting kids playing hockey in the street. We decided to drive through, so they would have to move their net for us. They were slightly annoyed. Then I turned around and went back down the street. They were very annoyed, to say the least. He, he, he... the perks of driving.

2:00PM Today I had to pick up my boyfriend from his house, but I had to use the car since all the others were being used. You might recall the ditch or the windsheild wiper incident earlier. Well, the car hasn't been running very well in the first place, and with me behind the wheel makes a bad combination. I was turning out of the driveway onto a busy street and I accidentally turned on the windsheild wipers again! Someday, I'll get it right.
9:00PM I was driving my friends home from a fair that we went to. I was turning out of the parking lot and had to stop to let some pedestrians cross the street. Then some jerk came speeding down the street and stopped right behind me and honked the angry horn at me. What am I supposed to do, run the people over?

Monday, July 28
9:00AM I had to pick up my friend, Sue, on our way to band this morning. I was doing rather well until after I had to take her home. On our way back to the school, I ran right through a stop sign, and didn't realize it until I passed it. Then, when I got to the school I ran into the curb and it made a screaching noise. My best friend's mom could hear it from across the parking lot.
6:00PM I had to pick up Sue again, but this time I forgot to turn and had to turn around in a new housing plan. Then when I picked up Sue, I was telling her about the stop sign that I ran through and I ran through another one! When we got back to the school, my sister went around the band room telling everyone what I did today. Someone came up to me and said, "So, I hear you're a bad driver." They don't know the half of it.

7:00PM I went miniture golfing with Laura and Shawn today. I let Shawn drive due to my driving record from yesterday. When we got there, the key was stuck in the ignition. After trying for ten minutes we decided to call my dad. His advice didn't work, so we just left the key and played golf. In other news, I won third place in the game.

9:00AM On our way to band, I passed my best friend's mom who was walking along the street. When she saw me driving, she started running for her life!

Friday, August 8
7:00PM I went to a birthday party for my friend, Ruth (who just got her permit last week), and I drove my sister and my friend, Becky (who just got her license that day), to Ruth's house. I had no idea where she lived, but Becky did so I depended on her for directions (bad move.) We ended up on this one lane gravel road. When we realized we were on the wrong road it was too late to turn around because there was a cliff on one side of the road and a steep hill on the other. I finally found a wide place on the road where I could safely turn around and go back.

Tuesday, August 12
3:00PM Today my band went to Kennywood to march in a parade there. My friend and I went on a ride that you pretend that you're driving a car, but it's really going along a track. I was driving our car and I was running into track on when it curved, mostly on purpose. There was a group of little kids outside the ride watching me trying to drive the little car. One of the kids yelled out to me as I went past, "You're a bad driver!" He should see me with a real car.

Monday, August 18
9:00AM I was a bit tired this morning on my way to band practice. Maybe that could explain my absentmindedness (is that even a word? Well, it is now.) When my sister and I were walking inside, I reached into my pockets and realized that my keys weren't there. The only place that I could've let them was inside my locked car. I had to call my mom and get her to unlock the car.

Saturday, August 23
2:00PM Just when I think I've done it all, I do something even stupider. Today after band practice, I was pulling out of the parking lot and hit the curb. It's actually nothing new, but this time I heard air fizzing out of the tire. I pulled over and looked at the tire. Yep, it was definitely flat. I sent my sister out to look for a phone when one of my friends passed by. Her dad knew how to change the tire and helped me out (I didn't even know where the spare was!) I made it home allright on the tire that has been under the van for 11 years. When my dad took it to get fixed, he said that the old tire looked like someone beat it.

Thursday, August 28
7:00AM I just got my school driving pass. Now I can drive to school and not have to ride the stupid bus that I usually miss anyways. Only one problem. We have to back into the parking spaces. I can't even park forward! My mom told me over and over again that I wouldn't be able to do it, but I drove anyways. To my surprise, I got in on the first try! Of course, it wasn't my best parking job, but at least I was between the lines and I didn't hit anything.

Monday, February 16
The first time was scary enough for some, but now there's another out there. Today my sister, Laura, has turned 16 and is ready to get behind the wheel. Will there be a repeat of my misadventures? After bugging me for a while, I gave her first lesson. We got into the car and I showed her what all the controls did. She liked the windshield wipers- and washing the windshield while I was standing next to the car. Next, I showed her how to shift gears. I stressed that it's important to hold the brakes down while you're doing this. Fortuanately, she didn't do this with the car on yet. Than I realized that she had her foot on the gas pedal. I guess I should've started there first. I asked her which pedal she was holding down and she said it was the brakes. After telling her which pedal is which, I taught her how to turn the car on. Then we had to go in the other two cars and do the same thing all over again.
